Golden Mane Book One of The Adventures of Sarah Coppernick eBook SJB Gilmour
This book started out a bit of a 'different' level than my usual reading preference, however, as I continued to read on, I found an exceptionally interesting story line with absolutely some of the most fun, memorable characters. It took a few pages in to really capture my attention. Being an avid Harry Potter fan as well as Lord of the Rings and other similar fantasies, this book rates right up there with them as far as getting my imagination warmed up and really running on hot by the time I finished (within one night, thank you!). I was so into the story I immediately went back on line and purchased Book 2. Book 2...WOW! Kept my imagination burning right up to the end as well. What a facinating talent this author is. Not easy to keep me as interested as these books have! Now that Book 2 is also done, when is Book 3 coming out? I CAN'T WAIT!!!!!P.S. I also purchased the short stories on 'Angela of Troy' & 'Benjamin McConnell, Silver Shroud', two of the main characters in this series. Both books were, again, very well written, interesting and enjoyable! Don't let these pass you by. You'll be most happy you didn't!

Golden Mane Book One of The Adventures of Sarah Coppernick eBook SJB Gilmour Reviews
Full of wit and whimsy, this was an entertaining read for me at forty-one years of age, and worth sharing with my children when they're old enough.
The female protagonist proves a girl can be strong, capable, logical and intelligent. Sarah cares about her appearance, without being so obsessed by it that she feels the need to wear scanty clothing, or layers of makeup. She doesn't spend the entire book mooning over some boy, or her unfortunate lot in life; she has more important things to do. I won't tell you what those important things are. You'll want to find out for youself.
Benjamin and Angela are intriguing, and I developed an immediate fondness for Nathan and Ronny. I'm looking forward to reading "Angela of Troy" and "Run Ronny Run", both of which already reside in my .
I'm certain to reread this one several times, before I get to share it with my four year old daughter. The best thing is, I'm just as certain there will be several more additions to the series, for me to enjoy while I wait.
When you can forget where you are for a good couple hours and come back to reality suddenly and harshly realizing you are hungry, need to use the bathroom and haven't blinked for too long to recall, you must have been reading a good book. That was my experience with Golden Mane. This book is captivating. The silly phrases the author uses to describe things make this so much fun to read. It was all of the things you wish to find in a fantasy novel. I like books that could be for either audience, younger or adult. This book would be appropriate for either. The characters in this book are lively and likable and not the kind that you wish to escape from by finishing the story. I found the plot of this book to be original and thought the story did a good job of living up to it. Unlike many series books, the author took time crafting the ending of this one. It didn't just cut off in mid sentence. I look forward to reading the next book in this series.
Golden Mane gets into the meat of the story promptly. When Sarah gets into a fight at school and the girl ends up with a nasty bite, we find out what Sarah really is. Her parents went missing when she was young so she lives with her aunt and uncle. They get along great, and she also has another Uncle who she seems to favor. Uncle Benjamin.
Obviously after biting a classmate, regular school is out of the question. Uncle Benjamin, however, has her schooling covered. All number of supernatural beings are both taught and taught about. The school setting is like Harry Potter in a way, but instead of different houses there are different races. In places it almost reads like a humanities lesson, but in a good way.
Golden Mane isn't your everyday werewolf novel, and that is quite the relief. In a field of such overplayed characters, it is a breath of fresh air. I highly recommend it and anticipate the second and third book in this series.
Golden Mane by SJB Gilmour (book 1 of The Adventures of Sarah Coppernick) is a fun book about a young girl learning she is a werewolf and that the world around her contains more magic than she ever would have dared to believe. This realization doesn't only bring fun, however. She also learns that her parents whom she had been told were dead are really being held captive by the evilest of sorcerers who has plans to come after her as well.
You see, what it boils down to, is that Sarah is the rare type of werewolf called a Golden Main. This unusual type of werewolf can more easily control the magical forces than most so her potential enemies simply want to eliminate her as a threat before she's the chance to become adept at her magical control. This is why her aunt and uncle (brown coat werewolves) have attempted to keep magical knowledge from her for as long as possible. They don't want her probable hunters to simply pick her off when outsiders chance to notice she's not quite human.
Although, keeping one's very nature away from her own eyes can have it's consequences. When standing up to a school-yard bully, Sarah finds she has begun to maul the stuck up girl before even realizing she could become a wolf. Her guardians realize the time has come where all the secrets now must come out.
Sarah is introduced to the magical world with a full load of new situations and new friends. Most importantly, she begins on the quest to save her parents. It may be a long hard road, but with the allies she now finds she has, even the dire situation appearing around her isn't enough to make her lose her hope.
As a final note here, I just have to say I love the story of Sarah's `uncle' Benjamin. How he was born fully human, yet through bravery earned the highest werewolf gift, that of the `Silver Shroud' and became a werewolf himself; one with unsurpassed fighting abilities.
This book started out a bit of a 'different' level than my usual reading preference, however, as I continued to read on, I found an exceptionally interesting story line with absolutely some of the most fun, memorable characters.
