Compelled to purchase an antique ring while visiting Scotland, Maya begins to dream about the ring's owner. Known as the science of parapsychology, "people who study it say that objects and people ... have ... this energy around them. When we meet people or touch objects, we can take or give some of this energy." Desperate to find out more about the rings owner, Maya embarks on a journey to Paris and then Switzerland. Will she find the information she's looking for?"Ever since I found Rebecca's ring, my life has been nothing but a string of messages from from the universe or Fate or whatever!" - Maya
While I am usually skeptical about books with contrived story lines or too many coincidences (aka synchronicity, fate, or destiny), I suspended my disbelief for this book since it is based on the science behind this phenomenon. In lieu of trying to determine the validity of the story, I simply allowed myself to get lost in its magic.
And a sweet and enjoyable story it was! I would recommend this heartwarming debut for fans of magical realism and romantic stories with happy endings.

A love story and mystery with a touch of magic! Mikalsen really draws you into the settings and the characters of this lovely debut novel. I'm eager for more from this author.
Wonderfully woven story about love through the ages. It's hard to believe this was the author first novel. Her writing is stunning with intriguing characters and an engaging plot. A beautiful and magical read.
Mikalsen delivers a charming romance wrapped in a mystery about a powerful ring and a thwarted love. Maya's story is a fun read, and I was glad to learn just what connected her and the ring that called out to her.
I am utterly blown away that Wrapped In The Stars is Elena Mikalsen's debut novel! This historical romance is beautifully written, taking you to amazing places and topped with a touch of magic that is just the icing on the cake!
Maya is medical resident who was blamed for a medical error that was not hers. Through a series of twists and turns she buys a ring that gives her memories of a long ago romance between two young people during World War I. The story of both young doctors unfolds and you learn they are inter-connected. If you enjoy romance with a little fantasy, you will enjoy this book.
There was so much to love in this smart, engaging read---dual timelines, historical interest, love, grief, ambition, and intrigue. The two main characters, Rebecca and Maya, living a century apart, are both strong, resilient women fighting for their medical careers despite familial, societal, and administrative pressures. The connection these two women share forms the backbone of this beautiful story. As the mystery of a moonstone ring unfolds, the story alternates between modern-day Edinburgh, Paris, and New York to the years of WWI in Bern, Switzerland. If you love historical fiction, magical realism, and captivating stories, this one is for you.
Wrapped In the Stars is a riveting, heartfelt story about great loves, heartache and fate...told with a little bit of magic. Maya is in Edinburgh, running from guilt and blame, when a robin appears, leading her to an antique shop where she is compelled to buy a beautiful moonstone ring. She finds herself so fascinated by the ring and its past that she goes to Paris and then Switzerland, determined to learn more about the woman who wore it before her. In a dual timeline, we meet Rebecca, a young Swiss woman in 1911 who is determined to be a doctor. The author does a fantastic job at weaving the two timelines, as Rebecca’s and Maya’s stories converge in unexpected ways. At the heart of this book is a love story; a love that faces seemingly insurmountable challenges. I lost myself in the pages of this book as I became invested in the lives and loves of these wonderfully complicated characters.
